Americans are known for proudly flying the flag. The crisp star-spangled banner fluttering at the crest of a shiny flagpole inspires us. We also remember those who gave the ultimate sacrifice for our country.
But flags can wear out over time, and you may not realize there is a protocol for the proper disposition of the American Flag. According to the United States Flag Code: “The Flag, when it is in such condition that it is no longer a fitting emblem of display, should be destroyed in a dignified way, preferably by burning.”
In addition to burning, worn-out flags can be properly disposed of by burial or donating it to the American Legion of Veterans of Foreign Wars. Please dispose of our national symbol properly when the time comes. For flagpole repair or installation, contact us at Budget Flagpole today.
